From the VW techs and Indy guys I know, the 2.5 has been a very reliable engine. Big oil sump, pretty easy on oil, and in its current form, not too many weak links. I have a feeling if I keep it long enough, my 2012 will fall apart before the 2.5 really gives me trouble.
#3 · Jan 21, 2016 I've owned mine for probably 3 years now and I love it. 2005 to 2008 was the first version of the 2.5 5 cylinder which apparently it has a timing chain problem but I think it's all in how often you maintenance the engine.
