DmC devil may cry is not in the same universe its a reboot. On 23rd August (its Japanese release date) Devil May Cry is 20 years old! It was the first game I completed on my PlayStation 2 and I still play it regularly now (even managing to complete it on Devil May Cry: Pinnacle of Combat now has an official release date set to launch first for the China market in 2020, however, there is no word yet on a Western release date.
